History
According to mythologies and legends, the name of this city was first Jabalipuram, because its relation was linked to Maharishi Jabali. Here the municipality was formed in 1864. The fort of Madan Mahal is situated on a hill, which is an old Gond fort built by King Madan Singh in about 1100 AD, which was constructed with a strategic purpose. It does not have a residential system. It has a fortress right in the west, which was the principal town of 14th century four independent Gond kingdoms.
